SearchPDF Client Platform Requirements
SearchPDF requires that the web browser is configured to use the Acrobat Reader as a browser plug-in, and not as a helper application. Configuration help links are available at the bottom of this page.
A PDF file must open from within the web browser, along with the SearchPDF Javascript Toolbar. Then, the user can navigate through search results using the SearchPDF Toolbar navigation controls.
In order for search-term-highlighting and hit-page-navigation to function with a multipage PDF file, the Acrobat Reader must be a version that includes the Acrobat Search Plugin for Acrobat. This Acrobat plugin enables search-term-highlighting and the hit-page-navigation buttons to function for the opened PDF file.
Without the Acrobat Search Plugin, Acrobat Reader will still open the PDF file and download it a page-at-a-time, but highlighting will not occur and you will notice that the hit-page-navigation buttons are missing or disabled. These Search Navigation buttons are supplied by the Acrobat Search Plugin to the Acrobat Reader.
Adobe has not yet released the Acrobat Search Plugin for Macintosh OS X. Users of this operating system should check periodically with Adobe for the availability of this plugin, and install it when available to fully enable the features of SearchPDF. To view PDF within the web browser, Acrobat Reader 5.0.5 or above is required. The current Acrobat Reader 5.1 is recommended.
Click the link at the bottom of this page for a complete list of Acrobat Reader downloadable versions.
