Precision In Searching
Precision In Searching means using the shortest, fastest way to find exactly what you are looking for. It also means the ability to easily modify and refine a search so you can zero in on your target.
Precision has two aspects, which are retrieval and delivery. Retrieval is a matter of interpreting your detailed search request and returning results as fast as possible. Here, precision means having precision control in telling the search engine exactly what you are looking for, with many boolean command options and by combining full-text and fielded searches together.
Precision in delivery means the ability to continue to navigate and refine your search, and practically speaking, this means taking full advantage of the individual qualities of each file format, while integrating them into a cohesive whole on the web.
Different file formats are identified by an icon to the right of each Document Title. The different file formats are displayed in their native web browser plug-ins. Specifically:
HTML Browser
XML Browser
PDF Acrobat Reader
DjVu DjVu Viewer
The native viewer is displayed in a frame above the WebSearch Search and Navigation Bar.
The navigaton bar actually integrates the diffferent file types by providing navigation between search results regardless of file type. When a change is made from one file type to another, the top document frame changes while the bar remains.
Article Thread Indexing adds a significant new level of precision. The paginated formats, which are PDF and DjVu, can have Article Threads which define exactly what text goes into a searchable index for that searchable object or Article. This means that relevant Document Titles can be displayed on the search-results list, because the document titles are actually Article Titles within larger files.
A catalog of items is an example. When you search, you want to see a list of items, not a list of Catalog Issue Numbers. Drawing an Article Thread around each item as it occurs in the document will allow this to happen.
