These days, we expect more and more of our web sites - we expect to go beyond the bounds of static HTML pages with new and richer forms of digital content and interactivity.  Forms that make the web experience and web portals more useful and productive and ultimately more valuable for us.

We offer SearchPDF 2.0, PDFPublish 2.0, PDFMetamaker 2.0 and other products to enable true digital surrogates of documents (documents with all the original page formatting intact) to be presented and searched within websites.

SearchPDF 2.0 is a document search and retrieval application that extends and integrates itself into an HTML website or web portal.  All original document forms, including scans from paper, are now available to find, query, display, navigate, copy, save, send and print.

Search PDF PDF is a feature-rich format for digital documents and publications, and this format now has an important role to play in websites and interactive web portals.
Search PDF PDF has the power to "stand-in" for a paper-based documents as faithful digital surrogates of the original, as much as photocopies aready do. It is just as adept at representing digital-source documents like spreadsheets and presentations, and documents that are Saved As PDF from authoring applications, or Distilled to PDF via PostScript using Acrobat Distiller.

 Powerful Search Functions
SearchPDF takes you with precision and speed directly to the digital documents you are looking for. You go directly to the PDF page and the word(s) you are looking for. It is simple, powerful, intuitive, direct and fast.

You have the power of full-text searching, with the added efficiency of structured queries based on custom index field values stored in the PDF files themselves!

Go Beyond the Traditional Search Page
You can extend the search function beyond the traditional "search page" and genenerate search hyperlinks which perform "filter queries" on other web portal pages. For example, a hyperlink that says "Research Reports for April, 2002". The actual query performed in this example (under the hyperlink) is simply:

(ReportType contains Research) and (Date between 20020401 and 20020430)

Filter Queries can replace HTML list pages that are maintained or created manually.  Your document list pages are automatically updated within 5 minutes of initial document posting!

 User Benefits
As a user, you will appreciate the ease and power of SearchPDF 2.0. Searches can be refined. Results can be resorted by multiple fields. PDF Documents open quickly, regardless of size. The terms you are looking for are highlighted in the PDF files. You can navigate directly between search hit pages. Perform simple or advanced queries, structured or unstructured, the choice is yours.

Don't just take our word for it, try it out! This website contains links to some excellent demonstrations and web portals that have integrated SearchPDF!

Building Public Access Libraries on the Internet

 Supporting Applications
Also presented and offered here are three additional applications from JRA Software to assist you in the creation and preparation of PDF files for delivery on the Web.  These are:

PDFPublish (convert scans and Image-PDF to Searchable-PDF)
PDFMetamaker (add metadata to PDF on the web)
JRA FirstPage (prepare bitonal TIFF files for conversion to PDF)

 PDFPublish
PDFPublish is a batch processing application.  It takes raster image files (like TIFF and JPEG) as well as PDF files, and it converts them to Searchable-Image PDF files, complete with metadata and ready to be published on the web. The OCR engine used is the award-winning ABBYY FineReader Engine, and this gives you the highest level of search accuracy, in any combination of 176 languages!

Plus, with the leading-edge JBIG2 compression engine from CVision, you can reduce the size of PDF produced with searchable text and bitonal page images (TIFF files) by 2 or 3 times!

DjVu Plus, this application also offers dual output to searchable-image bitonal or photo DjVu files, (DjVuLibre license applied for) This alternate file format consistantly outperforms PDF on the web even with the latest PDF compression methods, and the format is perfect for use in the SearchPDF application.

You will love both the simplicity and the power of this application, compared with poorly-designed alternatives.

 PDFMetamaker
PDFMetamaker is a web server application that is used to enter custom and standard metadata fields directly into PDF files.  By moving metadata creation into the web browser, operators can enter metadata without the actual PDF files (they are on the server), without any special software and from any location that is connected to the web!

 JRA FirstPage
JRA FirstPage is an image enhancement application for bitonal TIFF files. It features "virtual document separation" and "rapid manual cleanup".  Enhanced TIFF image will provide superior OCR results when you make searchable-image PDF files in PDFPublish.

 Compression Products
Compression Products from JRA enable you to bring the size of PDF files down to a level that is suitable for web delivery, while at the same time saving significant storage space on your server.
